*1936: “It is not so long ago that a member of the Diplomatic Body in London, who had spent some years of his service in China, told me that there was a Chinese curse which took the form of saying, ‘May you live in interesting times.’ There is no doubt that the curse has fallen on us”* ~ Sir Austen Chamberlain

Here we are at another pivotal moment of *interesting times*. The world has evolved at breakneck speed over the past two decades. Technology has taken over our lives whether that be doomscrolling or AI. We’re on the cusp of a potential new way of life. There’s talk of digital IDs, increased surveillance, data centres. Generally, a focus on commercialism and an associated destruction of nature.

It could sound as though we are doomed.

But I don’t believe that. I’ve thought, for a long time, that we have choice and can create the world in which we live. In the world, but not necessarily of it.

Quiet rebellion leads us to live according to our values. It might look like growing your own veg. Detaching from social media. Embracing a more analogue lifestyle. Not watching TV. Following your own spiritual path.

While the world appears intent on moving in one direction, we can travel in the opposite.

Life is never cast in stone. It may look as though it is at times. But, each of us, in our own small way, can create a ripple effect that brings about big change. We start small and local. We impact the wider world.

Source + Spiral is about impact and what that looks like for each of us.
